BodyLight Balloons

Bodylight Balloon is referred to an intragastric balloon which is a non-surgical, temporary weight loss device that is inserted into the stomach to help individuals lose weight. It works by creating a feeling of fullness, thus reducing the amount of food a person can eat, delayed gastric emptying & alteration with metabolic hormones.

The balloon is typically inserted through the mouth and down the oesophagus using an endoscope. Once in the stomach, it is inflated with a sterile saline solution. The entire procedure is usually done on an outpatient basis.

The inflated balloon takes up space in the stomach, leading to a sensation of fullness. This helps patients eat smaller portions, leading to reduced calorie intake and, consequently, weight loss.

Patients may experience some discomfort during the procedure and for a short time afterward. However, it is generally well-tolerated, and pain is usually managed with medication.

The bodylight balloon aka intragastric balloon is a temporary device and is typically left in place for about 1 year. After this period, it is removed through another endoscopic procedure.

Weight loss results vary, but on average, patients may lose 10-15% of their total body weight during the time the balloon is in place. The amount of weight loss can be influenced by lifestyle changes and can exceed beyond 18% - 20%

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain in the initial 3-5 days after balloon placement. Serious complications are very rare but can include balloon deflation, migration, or bowel obstruction.

Candidates are usually individuals with a body mass index (BMI) between 30 and 40 who have been unsuccessful with traditional weight loss methods. It may also be recommended for those seeking a non-surgical weight loss option.

The intragastric balloon is most effective when combined with a comprehensive weight loss program that includes dietary counselling, exercise, and behavioural therapy.

Long-term success depends on maintaining a healthy lifestyle post-removal. The balloon is a tool to kick-start weight loss, but sustainable results require ongoing commitment to diet, exercise, stress management, less screen time & behavioural therapy.

In many cases, insurance may not cover the cost of intragastric balloons because it is considered a cosmetic or elective procedure. Patients should check with their insurance providers for specific details.

Yes, we do offer financing options, including Equated Monthly Instalment (EMI) plans, to make the procedure more accessible for patients.

An EMI plan allows you to spread the cost of the Bodylight balloon i.e. intragastric balloon procedure over a fixed number of monthly payments. This can make the financial burden more manageable.

You can inquire about EMI plans during your consultation at reception desk. They will provide you with the necessary information and guide you through the application process.
